This is a wonderful neighborhood family- and food-friendly microbrewery. That means bring the kids before 9 o'clock and bring a pizza or anything. Many times you'll find a food truck out front. All the bartenders are knowledgeable and you can try a free sample of any brew before you buy. Go for a flight if you can't make up your mind. This is Pure Michigan at its best. Join the mug club and drink there twice a month and it pays for itself! Don't forget the special events they host - like Fury for a Feast in their parking lot in August.

Finally made it to the Witch's Hat tonight for a beer after a workout. We sat at the bar and the three bartenders seemed genuinely friendly and personable. I had the gluten free IPA after sampling the ciders and decided that I didn't like any of them including the IPA. It was very bitter. The atmosphere is mixed and relaxed. It would be nice to have food and more gluten free beers that taste good. This day in age most establishments have a solid selection.

When I first really went here, which was just after they opened, I knew their original space was too small. Now with their newer, larger location, at least you can get in! I can understand the reason for the crowd. It's not just because they're the only brew pub around, it's because they have some dang great beer. I recently had their session IPA, That Guy. I'm happy this style is becoming popular. This brewery does a great job. It taste like a full blown IPA, but with fewer ABVs. The staff was wonderful. Friendly and efficient. Prices are resonable, as well. The only knock I have is their lack of a kitchen. If they had some good food, I would give it the fifth star.

It's pretty good beers, a lot of IPA'S, I'm not much of an IPA fan but for those who r they r all over here, I had a porter called Edwards Portly Brown, it had a good twist of a brown ale and a porter, a very good beer, then I had the Farmers Direct Coffee Stout, it's alright it has more of the harsh porter taste than a stout taste, then I had the Kevin baconator which had a great bacon taste, it was really good. The vibe here is anywhere from young to about mid 30's and it is not a quiet place. It's in the middle of nowhere tho. Worth the drive tho.

I love this place so much that I am a mug club member. This is by far the best place in town to chill out, enjoy good beer and randomly converse with fellow beer enthusiasts. You don't have to be from South Lyon to find a friend in here, it's a small town location with big city potential - only the finest around with good taste in beer (and mugs!) They don't serve food so patron beware. However they do have a food truck during most evening hours of the week/weekend and they also have freshly popped popcorn and McClure's potato chips. They also allow you to bring food in and they encourage local ordering/delivery to keep neighboring businesses happy. The new location attracts a much larger crowd which sometimes impacts service but the "OG" wait staff will always look after you. Rest assured you will be served by a friendly and knowledgeable staff member with a little patience.

Best mug club around. Absolutely love this place for the atmosphere, beer, people, and service. Pros: Beer, value, atmosphere, friendly patrons and staff, awesome mug club, new spacious location, no food menu Cons: an occasional child- I really don't like kids in bars/breweries, I'm starting to grow tired of the same beers. I totally love Witch's Hat, and am so happy it is located in my town. The new location has so much more seating, while still maintaining the same intimate atmosphere the old location had. Love the hand blown glass mugs hung on the walls. With it being opening week, parking is kind of a drag. The servers and patrons are also really friendly. It has its own special culture, while also being true to South Lyon without having that awful townie feel that every michigan bar and most breweries have. The beer here is really good. I love the Coffee Stout. They recently changed the recipe. It has lost some potency and abv, but still has great flavor. This is also cool because it enables me to drink more and be able to drive. My personal favorites also include Train Hopper and the bourbon barrel beers. I'm probably the only person who has never talked to the owners, but honestly am always just awestruck by the passion they put into their beer. It is no wonder they are as successful as they are and make such great tasting beers. I love the fact they don't have food. It keeps the place from being overrun with kids. It also makes beer the priority. Plus there are a plethora of menus you can order from! If I had to say something negative about Witch's Hat, which I don't, but I will, I'd really like to have more stouts on the menu more often. Whenever they have those stout events I am as giddy as a school girl. The beers they have are great, and I'd really like to see them experiment more with flavors. Train Hopper is a really good IPA, I also wish it had some other great IPA friends to hang out with. The ones I've had have left a lot of be desired. In closing, I'm a grateful mug club member, and really feel like they are doing me a favor by being around. Keep up the great work Hat! "Cheers"

I am not a beer drinker so I'm writing this review for my husband. A friend got him a mug club membership for Christmas, and every Tuesday he's up there getting half off a growler or howler to bring home. He loves their selection, the hometown feel that brings a huge sense of pride, and I even indulge in a cider now and then (blueberry is my favorite, followed by a very tart cherry and then apple if neither of the other two). Beers range from 4%- over 10% ABV, with a variety of brews and flavors. We're very glad to have something like this in South Lyon. Also, the Wooden Spork food truck is there most nights I've been there, as Witch's Hat only serves popcorn and bagged chips as food fare.

Great beer. Try the batch 400, it is seriously SOOO flavorful. They recently had a turnover with the staff so the service here is MUCH better than it used to be. They do not serve food but you're allowed to order out. Really great beers, good service, and a pretty atmosphere. Try it out.

Nice location. Beer selection excellent. Great atmosphere. 15 different offerings on chalkboard today. Plenty of seating and room to network for larger groups.

It's owned by a former girlfriend of my son, back in 98' I caught them making out in his room at 1:30am and she bounced out the window and ran like hell but she sure has great brews at the Hat! (-:)

I will start by saying that this place is awesome! Great selection of wonderful beer, great music, clean, decor is fantastic! The reason i give this place three stars is because of the service we received. First off, the girl--Erica, was extremely rude!! Very unfriendly and not even a smile, nor did she offer to ask if we had any questions about the beer. She was more concerned about her drama that she had going on with her friend who came in and sat at the bar. I will say that the guy bartender was more helpful, and friendly, which is a reason I will return. Seriously though, who gave this girl a job interacting with customers?! She appears to hate life and everyone around her.

Service service service. When will companies learn? I took a potential client here. Nice place but after waiting 15 minutes for service he suggested we go somewhere else. I told him to relax and that I would find a waiter. Got up to try to get help and was told they would be right over. 10 minutes later we left. I don't understand how you expect to stay in business when you can't sell your beer to your customers because of incompetent waitstaff.

Excellent brewery! We love the bartenders and the beer is superb. We are always happy when they have rotating food trucks on site. Very roomy place with plenty of seating.

Amazing bar! Great spirits and even better brew!

Great beer and atmosphere. The owner is a great guy and hangs with the crowd. Perfect for s Lyon.

The brewery is amazing. The BBQ truck outside is...not good at all. Got a sampler platter with my wife ($26) the only thing that was good was the Mac and cheese and chips. All the meat was tough and super fatty. It's to bad.

Went on a Tuesday night at around 7-8pm. There was a guy outside selling barbecue. We bought a couple pulled pork sandwiches and went inside to have a beer with our dinner. That was a hopeful thought. We waited about 5-10 minutes with our food. A number of servers were buzzing by with their hands empty. Not all the tables were full, and there were 4 or 5 servers working the floor. Started dinner without the beer. Servers were helping every table around us, but for some reason we were invisible. Halfway through the barbecue (which was pretty good, but that's not who this review is for), I got up and went behind the side of the bar and got a menu for us. My friend and I looked it over and decided what we wanted. We had finished dinner and had waited a total of 20-25 minutes now. I had to flag down a waiter by flailing my arms around like an idiot, and he came over and said they were "really busy tonight". Don't know, but unless there is a beer shortage I can't see what they were spending so much time doing. They serve one product: beer. No food, no liquor. Just beer. It can't be that hard to wait on people just serving multiple variations of one product. I've tried a lot of microbrews, from San Diego to MI. I got the "Bear-Ass Wheat" and my buddy got Train Hopper IPA (their "flagship" beer). Mine was more like Coors Light than it was a Hefeweizen, and had an after taste like Circus Peanuts (the marshmallow candies). The Train Hopper had a strong hops taste from the start, but ended up being equally watery. The first time I went here was a number of months ago with my wife, it was fairly "late" (10pm) and the place had a maximum of 10 other people. The service was equally poor. In summary: terrible service, they don't have a kitchen, and mediocre beer. I'm fairly puzzled at the raving reviews because the beer just isn't that good. Next time I'm going to this place, I will be buying food from one of the street vendors that they have in their parking lot to take home.

If you like hoppy beer then this is the place for you. Seems like 90% of their beer is very hoppy even if it's not an IPA.

Excellent beer, service and atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff and great selection. Adjacent parking is limited, but there is plenty nearby. You can bring in your own food.

I am new to the area, but this place has quickly become my favorite thing about living in South Lyon. Great drinks and a good atmosphere to hang out - very proud to have a place like this in my town!

Stopped in Sunday. First visit to the new location. It's a vast improvement in space and ambiance. The beer just gets better. I lean towards the one offs. The standard offerings are just standard. The specialties are more interesting.
